ANAMNESIS (part 1) from Neville Elder on Vimeo.

Recalling the trauma of my childhood best friend’s death does not come easily and sometimes, not at all.

My themes are memory, trauma and the interior and exterior world and how they overlap. The family’s ability to change to survive, or resist and collapse.

I use the collective consciousness of found footage and create a visual collage using family home movies and ‘amateur’ observations. Often, I mix a voice-over soundtrack of fictional anecdotes with the historical, to re-create my personal world. When I decide to narrate in my own voice, it is a composite character; it’s me but different versions of myself. It is more of a performance, than a narration.
