To me, “The Life and Death of Tommy Chaos and Stacey Danger” is about the preconceived identities we carry around with us, and what happens when those identities start to disintegrate, both in the way you see yourself, and the way you see the people you love. This film was made with the help of more than 100 of my fellow NYU students, who teamed up to build a 40-foot trench, spaceship, and submarine all by hand in the school’s studio. Together we strove to build an expressionistic world of adventure that stepped outside the boundaries of reality in the hope that the audience will be transformed and transported to a place that is both as sad and exciting as the real world.
