Born and raised in Ukraine, Julia has explored storytelling through various genres and forms, ranging from text to site-specific art. As a filmmaker, she spent a few years working as a production assistant and distribution manager for documentaries. She holds a master’s degree in Literature and Comparative studies from the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and an MFA in the Film program at The City College of New York. Before Dawn began as her thesis project in the City College graduate film program.
