Growing up in American suburbia, I often felt unseen and struggled with a neither-here-nor-there South Asian identity; I was always too American at home and yet too Indian for my white friends. Our protagonist’s perspective as an insider/outsider is a reflection of my own interiority, and one that I hope other second generation folks will understand the ache of.
