New York, NY (September 17, 2013) – The National Board of Review announced today that they will unveil their award winners on Wednesday, December 4th, 2013. The NBR also debuted a logo and website redesign at www.nationalboardofreview.org.

“The National Board of Review has been a premier film awards organization since 1909,” said NBR President Annie Schulhof. “We believe that our contemporary redesign and digital presence effectively communicates that the NBR is one of the leading voices in modern film appreciation.”

The new visual identity and website are the result of nearly a year of work. Orson Robbins-Pianka, NBR Managing Director, had this to say about the new look: “The identity system we created in collaboration with our design partners at Objective Subject preserves our organization’s enduring tenets of integrity, respect, and advocacy, and also reflects a decidedly modern approach. The new wordmark recalls classic white-on-black film titles and signals the unique nature of the organization with bespoke letterforms. The newly launched website also elicits a sense of discovery for users, with colorful tiles and a comprehensive archive of awards history.”

For over 104 years the National Board of Review has dedicated its efforts to the support of domestic and foreign cinema as both art and entertainment. Each year, over 250 films (studio, independent, foreign-language, animated and documentary) are viewed by this select group of film enthusiasts, filmmakers, professionals, academics and students. These screenings are frequently followed by in-depth discussions with directors, actors, producers, and screenwriters. One of the NBR’s core values is their belief in nurturing new and up-and-coming filmmakers by awarding grants to promising film students and facilitating community outreach to The Children’s Aid Society, The Ghetto Film School, Reel Works Teen Filmmaking, and Educational Video Center. Last year the NBR awarded grants to 19 filmmakers.

The National Board of Review’s annual awards gala will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2014, at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City.
