What was your experience like coming to this project?
Jason Segel: I had made a decision that I wanted to do something entirely different than what I had been doing.

One of the most priceless moments in the film is when Lady Bird escapes from the car. What was it like putting that scene together?
Greta Gerwig: That scene was such a monster on the page because there are so many emotions.

Can you talk about conceiving this story, and you’re writing process?
Noah Baumbach: It was inherent in the title that we are asking, “Does anyone really know what the story of a marriage is, and if that story has an end of sorts, does it mean it wasn’t a marriage?”

Fisher, I understand that this film had a pretty unique origin story?
Fisher Stevens: Leo [DiCaprio] called me and told me he was in Brooklyn, and that I should come meet him for lunch at the racetrack in Brooklyn. I told him there was no race track in Brooklyn!

How did you decide what to include and how to show how the puzzle pieces fit together?
That was the main question in the beginning, because it is so overwhelming. It’s likely there are at least 500 survivors of Nassar alone.

I’d love to hear how you developed the script.
Andrea Pallaoro: Well, it’s a film that I had envisioned as part of a much larger exploration on the traumas and the dynamics of what it means to feel abandoned and the consequences of that.

Maya, I understand that the seed of the idea for this film originated with you?
Maya Lasker-Wallfisch: Yes: I wrote a book, which was apparently interesting! And one of the things I wrote about in the book were two themes that really interested Daniela. And so Daniela and I were connected through a mutual person that we both knew.

Congratulations on this incredible film. I want to start with your producer credit. What does that role mean to you?
Celine Song: Being a producer can mean a lot of things. Sometimes it’s financial, but for me, it meant being in the creative trenches—casting, budgeting, locations, all of it.
