We spent three years filming, and we went to twenty five countries with Quincy.

The opening shot of the ocean felt very lyrical. What made you decide to open your film with this particular shot?
Mike Mills: In the script, the first shot is of a car burning and of course that seems like such a good way to begin a movie.

What drew you to this material and inspired you to direct the film?
Sian Heder: I came to this because it was originally a studio film, and Lionsgate was looking to do a remake of La famille Bélier, a French film that came out in 2014.

You’ve been with this project for 18 years. What’s the process been like?
Phyllis Nagy: Until the current team came aboard, there was me and a computer that sat on idle for five years

What compelled you to make this film?
Vanderbilt: I’ve always been fascinated with journalism and I always sort of looked at it as the road not taken.
